Eco-friendly menstrual support is essential for gender equity in Kenya.

Zosseo Overland Support is now providing reusable menstrual products to support the East African communities that we serve.

In many remote and rural areas of East Africa, women and girls face significant challenges when it comes to managing their menstrual cycles. Lack of access to affordable and eco-friendly menstrual care products can have a significant impact on their health, education, and overall wellbeing. Therefore, promoting eco-friendly menstrual care in these regions can have a transformative effect on women's lives and the environment.

One of the most critical reasons why eco-friendly menstrual care is essential in East Africa is the environmental impact of disposable menstrual products. Many disposable menstrual products, such as pads and tampons, contain plastics and other non-biodegradable materials that can take hundreds of years to decompose. This can lead to environmental pollution and degradation, as well as health hazards for local communities. Therefore, promoting eco-friendly menstrual care, such as reusable cloth pads or menstrual cups, can reduce the environmental impact of menstrual care and protect the health of the surrounding ecosystems.

In addition, promoting eco-friendly menstrual care can also have positive health outcomes for women and girls. Reusable cloth pads or menstrual cups can reduce the risk of infection or irritation associated with disposable products. They are also more affordable and accessible, ensuring that women and girls can manage their menstrual cycles with dignity and without sacrificing their education or productivity.

Providing adequate menstrual support can also have positive socio-economic impacts. Many women and girls in these regions may miss school or work due to the lack of access to menstrual care products or stigma associated with menstruation. By providing for and destigmatizing menstrual care, we can break down these barriers and promote gender equality and empowerment.

Women’s healthcare is essential for environmental sustainability, women's health, and socio-economic development. By investing in reusable and eco-friendly menstrual care products and promoting menstrual health education, we can empower women and girls and create a healthier and more sustainable future for all.
