The Rig

Inaccessible healthcare, meet The Rig

Lovingly nicknamed The Rig, our Iveco Eurocargo is our love letter to the savanna and all of it’s inhabitants. Our overland vehicle can manage whatever terrain it meets- which allows us to go into territories that most clinical aids can’t. The sidewalls of the truck fold down, tripling the square footage, and giving us the spaces necessary for surgery and triage. The vinyl flooring and electricity allows us a rare luxury in Kenya: sterile working conditions.

The importance of having a sterile work environment can be the difference between health and disease. Having The Rig at our disposal means that we can provide high quality, low risk healthcare; which is absolutely essential to our mission. With our solar panels and generators, we can remain powered and up to US health standards anywhere off grid.

On top of The Rig providing safety and cleanliness for our team and our patients during the day, it doubles as a home away from home by night. With a full kitchen, bathroom, and space to sleep several people,

Providing adequate dental care to rural areas of East Africa can be a challenging task due to several factors, including lack of resources, inadequate infrastructure, and difficulty in accessing these areas. However, using mobile dental clinics can offer numerous benefits in providing dental care to these underserved populations. Mobile dental clinics are designed to reach remote areas and provide dental care services to the people in those regions. In this essay, we will discuss the benefits of using a mobile dental clinic to provide care in rural areas of East Africa.

One of the most significant benefits of using a mobile dental clinic is the ability to reach remote areas where people may not have access to regular dental care services. Mobile dental clinics can travel to these areas and provide necessary care to those in need, such as dental cleanings, fillings, extractions, and oral health education. This is especially important for rural populations in East Africa, where dental care may be limited or nonexistent, leading to poor oral health outcomes.

Another benefit of using a mobile dental clinic is the flexibility it offers in terms of scheduling appointments. Mobile dental clinics can be set up in a location for a few days or weeks, allowing people in the area to schedule appointments at their convenience. This can be especially helpful for those who may work during regular business hours or may not have transportation to reach a dental clinic in a larger city.

Mobile dental clinics can also help reduce the cost of dental care for rural populations in East Africa. Since mobile clinics are designed to be portable, they can avoid the costs associated with maintaining a fixed location. This means that they can provide dental care services at a lower cost than traditional dental clinics, making it more accessible to people in rural areas who may have limited financial resources.

In conclusion, using a mobile dental clinic to provide care in rural areas of East Africa offers numerous benefits, including increased access to dental care services, flexibility in scheduling appointments, and reduced costs. By investing in mobile dental clinics, we can improve the oral health outcomes of rural populations in East Africa, leading to a healthier and more productive society.
